Marc Truyens Career Coaching - Career Counselling - Assessing And Training
The Future Is Yours
I am a strong believer in a holistic approach to life. We spend a lot of time at work, yet we tend to see this as something that is separate from our day to day life. However, if we make choices that motivate us, then we can integrate work into our lives. At the same time I feel it’s important to recognise that work, and life, can be challenging, especially when we need to make decisions that have an impact on our life and the people around us. We all come up against changes that we make voluntarily or changes that are forced upon us, not just in work, but also in life. These can very deeply affect all the other aspects of our life and they may send us in a new, unfamiliar direction. One such change is also retirement, which we can plan for, so we can make the most of the time that has suddenly become available. We can take the perspective that retirement is another change in our ‘life-career’. I can support you in preparing for change, exploring options and preferences and help you find the best way forward.
What people say about me
You have been the most professional, proactive and approachable careers advisor that I have worked with during my teaching career. Our students have been full of praise for the support and guidance that you have given them…
“You are a dedicated, caring, hardworking individual”…
” You are the most dedicated adviser I have ever come across… always totally committed to providing a top quality service to young people…”
“you have always been so easy to talk to + willing to help and support us whatever the problem…”
You might not remember me but I would like to thank you for all your hard work with my cv when I was out of work. You will be glad to know I have been in work for four months now for a really good company.
“thank you so much for your excellent input and contributions to North Dorset. You are reliable, dependable & the hugely positive feedback we had from your school – staff, head, students – is some of the best I’ve ever heard.”
Thank you again so much for all your help! I’m not sure I would be on track as I am without your help. You certainly improved both my point of perspective and application processes like my personal statement.
Good news, I have a job!
I sent the CV to [redacted] and they sent me an email with the application form. Filled it in and sent it by email the next day. About an hour after I was invited for an interview today and was offered a position a few hours later!
I am over the moon! I really don’t think I would have found work so quickly without your help, so thank you, thank you, thank you!
First of all let me say a big “Thank you/Grazie” for your professional and very friendly help. Not only your skills are important: your positive and active attitude is still helping me to look at the process of applying for a new job in a more positive way.
Interesting the way you picked up on the post of the pinwheel and turned it into a wind turbine, we’re thinking along the same lines!
I am really glad I decided to take some advice for my application outside of my school and their contacts. You have most definitely helped me understand and come to terms with the decisions I have to make, and had a great impact upon my personal statement.
I loved your comparison of the life-career paradigm with the big-bang theory… you did such a great job outlining my theory, which is universal to life, making it such a gentle way to be in life.
You saw my son, [redacted] Year 13, this morning. He has been feeling so down about his studies and what to do next, but he feels so much better for talking to you and feels he now has ideas which enthuse and engage him. I can’t thank you enough! The word he used to describe you is “legend”.
We had a productive and very positive session with you. [redacted] arrived doubting of her abilities and skills, feeling somehow deflated. She left proud and radiant thinking that anything is possible!
Although our session, your interaction, your kind encouragement, and the advice given with a pinch of humour made me realise how lucky the school and students are to have you!
Take a moment to check out Marc’s website: lots on career theory and practice, and yet more: a section on graphic design giving you tips on creating infographics and presentations.
I teach an online graduate course in career development. I believe the presentation of career theory on your website is excellent, and I would like to use/reference some of the material with appropriate acknowledgements.
Thank you for investing your time and knowledge in creating this web site. It is a great resource for trainee and qualified career professionals.
I’m currently working on Unit 3, Career Guidance Theory and I have to say it’s been a real struggle. Then today…I found your website and it’s a revelation. You must have put so much work into it, particularly the timeline.
I just wanted to say thank you as your website is helping make sense of career guidance theory.
I just wanted to let you know that your website has helped me greatly in understanding career theories and how they all evolved and fit together. I am studying in Australia to be a Guidance Officer and Counsellor and career development is something we undertake in the course.
I am delivering a keynote … on the way in which Career Theory can (and should!) inform the complete career development journey from Student Experience to Graduate Development. Your site is proving invaluable in terms of clear explanations and graphics, so I wanted to, firstly, thank you for all your work on it, but also say that I hope it is OK to use your graphics in my keynote – I will be acknowledging you and listing you at the top of my list of references !
I just wanted to reach out and say thank you for providing such a useful, dedicated space to support OCR Level 6 Diploma in Career Guidance and Development students with completing the career guidance theory unit!
This resource that you have produced has been a godsend! I particularly enjoy how you have acknowledged and categorised the theories by theoretical etc. approaches and via a timeline
